Easy Christmas Drawing for Kids – 10 Step-by-Step Ideas
Looking for an easy Christmas drawing for kids? These 10 ideas use only circles, triangles and lines, so children aged 4–10 can draw them on their own in 5–10 minutes.

- Start with simple shapes: a triangle becomes a tree, three circles become a snowman.
- Draw lightly in pencil first, then go over the final lines with a marker.
- Colour last – red, green, gold and white make any drawing look like Christmas.
Christmas is the perfect time to sit with children and draw. You don't need art classes or costly colours – an easy Christmas drawing for kids starts with shapes they already know: circles, triangles, squares and lines. Below are 10 ideas, from very easy to a little challenging, with clear steps.
You need: plain paper, a pencil, an eraser, a black sketch pen and crayons or colour pencils.
Easy Christmas drawing for kids: 4 golden rules
- Draw light first. Use soft pencil lines so mistakes can be erased.
- Big shapes first, details later. Body first, then eyes, buttons and patterns.
- Go over with a marker. When the drawing looks right, trace the final lines in black.
- Colour at the end. Red, green, gold, brown and white are the Christmas colours.
Take a paper, draw one big triangle and a small square under it. Add a star on top – your first Christmas tree is ready!

1. Christmas tree (age 4+)
- Draw a tall triangle in the middle of the page.
- Draw a small square under it for the trunk.
- Add zig-zag lines across the triangle – these are the decorations.
- Draw small circles on the lines for balls.
- Put a star on the top. Colour the tree green, the trunk brown and the balls red and yellow.
For a fuller tree, draw three triangles on top of each other, small at the top and big at the bottom.
2. Snowman (age 4+)
- Draw a big circle at the bottom, a medium circle on top of it, and a small circle for the head.
- Add two dots for eyes and a small triangle for a carrot nose.
- Draw a smile with small dots.
- Draw two stick arms with three "fingers" each.
- Add three buttons, a hat (a rectangle on a line) and a scarf. Colour the scarf red and the nose orange.
3. Christmas star (age 5+)
- Draw a dot in the middle and five small dots around it like a circle.
- Join the outer dots with straight lines in a "skip one" pattern to make a five-point star.
- Draw a second, bigger star outline around it.
- Add small lines around the star for shine. Colour it golden yellow.
4. Christmas bell (age 5+)
- Draw a shape like an upside-down cup – a curve on top and wider at the bottom.
- Draw a flat oval at the bottom of the bell.
- Add a small circle under the oval – that is the clapper.
- Draw a bow on top with two loops. Colour the bell gold and the bow red.
5. Candy cane (age 5+)
- Draw the letter "J" upside down with a thick double line.
- Close the open end with a small curve.
- Draw slanted lines across the stick.
- Colour every other stripe red and leave the rest white.
6. Gift box (age 5+)
- Draw a square.
- Draw one vertical and one horizontal ribbon through the middle.
- Add a bow on top with two loops and two tails.
- Colour the box blue or green and the ribbon red. Draw two or three boxes of different sizes for a nice picture.
7. Christmas stocking (age 6+)
- Draw a tall rectangle that turns into a boot shape at the bottom.
- Draw a wide band at the top – this is the white fur.
- Add a heel and toe patch with a curved line.
- Write the child's name on the white band. Colour the stocking red.
8. Santa face (age 6+)
- Draw a circle for the face.
- Draw a big "cloud" shape under it for the beard.
- Draw a triangle hat on top, bent a little to one side, with a pom-pom at the tip.
- Add a white band at the bottom of the hat.
- Draw two dots for eyes, a round nose and a moustache like two small clouds. Colour the hat red and the cheeks pink.
9. Reindeer face (age 6+)
- Draw an upside-down egg shape for the head.
- Add two leaf-shaped ears.
- Draw two antlers like tree branches on top.
- Add eyes and a big round nose. Colour the face brown and the nose red.
10. Gingerbread man (age 7+)
- Draw a circle for the head.
- Draw a body like a star with round arms and legs.
- Add wavy lines at the hands and feet for icing.
- Draw eyes, a smile and three buttons. Colour him light brown.
Turn the drawings into Christmas cards
Fold an A4 sheet in half. Draw a tree or snowman on the front and write "Merry Christmas" inside. Children love giving their own cards to grandparents, teachers and friends. You can also cut the drawings out and stick them on the wall as decorations.
How to make drawing time fun
- Draw together – children copy what they see you doing.
- Praise effort, not perfection: "I love the colours you chose!"
- Keep sessions short: 15–20 minutes is enough for small children.
- Keep the drawings in a folder and see the progress after a month.
